Home is where you park it – Menallack Farm Campsite Review

Menallack Farm Caravan and Camping Site, Penryn, Cornwall, TR10 9BP

On our mission to search out the best campsites for campervans local to us, we ended up having a quick, one night stay at  Menallack Farm.

   What They Say:

“Menallack Caravan and Camping is a family-run site and offers a great escape for lovers of the outdoors.”

Menallack Farm Campsite

A beautiful, spot to camp with plenty of space

The site is pretty easy to find and access is good. As we entered the main field, we were quite blown away by the outlook there, simply stunning!  A gently sloping field, with views to die for.  They’ve tiered it around the edge though, to give flat-ish pitches with an access road in a circle all around, leaving a large, free area in the centre for kids to play safely. We’d gone along with a few friends, who also had small children and this is one of those sites you can comfortably let them run wild and free. Within minutes of being there, they’d made some new friends, and so had we! That’s the thing about VW campers, you instantly have something to start a rapport with people about, as there always seems to be someone who are either also owners, or have some sort of experience and/or connection or appreciation to them in some way.  From the site, there are beautiful views across countryside, all the way to the dominating satellite dishes of Goonhilly on the horizon in the far distance. We were treated to an amazing sunset and night sky too – well worth the £15 for the night for our family of four in the camper..

Menallack Farm

Bathrooms and Communal Area plus BBQ picnic tables

Facilities-wise, the place has a lovely new looking wooden lodge that contains a couple of really large, fully equipped shower rooms with toilets and basins. The showers are huge! These were in lovely condition when we were there, very clean and well presented.  The other end of the lodge has a communal kitchen area with free use of pretty much everything you’d need, sink, hobs, microwave, toaster, fridge freezer and most common disposables, cutlery and condiments. Also a couple of tables and chairs, some games for the kids and a free kids pool/snooker table.

On top of this, there are some welcoming picnic tables with built-in barbecues at the top of the field overlooking everything and an older toilet/shower block further down that’s a bit dated, but does the job just fine.

They;ve also got a bit of clamping going on..  Bell tents, pods and a static caravan with a view. We didn’t have time this visit, but by all accounts, there’s a lovely walk down through the woods with fire pits etc. I did pop into the bit next door and there’s a sheltered area with wooden benches and table making use of that view, plus a communal fire pit with plenty of wood there to keep you going.  In fact, everything was well stocked up whilst we were there.

All in all, the overall feel of the site is pretty laid back.

It’s only small, but everyone seemed in very good spirits and friendly and we all had a great night.  I honestly can’t really think of anything bad to say about Menallack. Stopping here is definitely a boost for the soul and in my opinion really captures the essence of what a great campsite in Cornwall should be. So next time you hire a campervan in Cornwall, be sure to come and check it out!  ; )

See you in a field…

Tim
